Wrestling takes to the Arizona Mountains

To end 2017 the Escondido varsity wrestling team made the 7 hour trip to Prescott Valley, Arizona to wrestle in the Mile High Challenge. The Cougars brought a total of 8 of the 14 weight classes on the trip. The Mile High Challenge is a 2-day tournament that takes place at the Prescott Valley Convention Center the home of the Arizona State Wrestling Championships. Escondido was the lone out of state team in the tournament that featured 28 Arizona schools. Day 1 saw 6 Cougars in the quarterfinals, and the other two wrestlers still alive in the consolation wrestle backs. Day 2 was not so kind to the Cougars, with the elevation playing a factor the Cougars came away with one placer at the end of day 2. Jesus Barajas finished in 5th to cap the tournament.
